Growing up, one of the highlights of the Holiday Season every year was the annual Peanuts’ Christmas Special on CBS. Looking back, I think the magic for me was rooted in the combination of Charles Schulz’s naïve but deeply spiritual characters, the honesty and innocence of their quest, the visually spare and evocative landscapes, and Vince Guaraldi’s brooding, melancholy piano jazz (a sound which I associate with Christmas to this day). I have tried here to re-capture some of my impressions of this wonderful tale, especially in songs like Oh Christmas Tree and Christmas Time is Here. I hope I have succeeded to some degree and I hope you enjoy.
